Oil pressure is an important factor in the longevity of most internal combustion engines. With a Oil pressure is higher when the engine is cold due to the increased viscosity Oil pressure is lowest under hot idling conditions, and the minimum pressure allowed by the manufacturer's tolerances is usually given at this point.

No oil pressure at idle, but it raises when RPMs raise.? I thought that when main bearings go bad, pressure drops when you rev the engine. My pressure is at 0, but it goes up to 20-25 pounds when the engine is revved. On many older vehicles, an oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster gave a visual indication of actual oil pressure, usually topping out at 50 to 60 psi. Most modern vehicles, though, have done away with the oil pressure gauge, replacing it with a simple low oil pressure warning light, which illuminates when oil pressure drops below 5 to 7 psi. When warmed up, oil pressure at idle is 13 psi, up from 8 psi with 5W-30 oil earlier in the day. At 3500 rpm, it is only 35 psi. Looks like I'll need to reread the links grumpy posted to see if there are causes listed for low pressure at moderate to high rpm.
