Exchange-traded funds and open-ended mutual funds are considered a single population for comparative purposes. Morningstar will revise its mutual fund ratings system to put a bigger focus on investor fees and set a higher bar for funds to earn top ratings of Gold, Silver, or Bronze. The Morningstar Rating TM is a quantitative assess- ment of a fund’s past performance—both return and risk—as measured from one to five stars.
